Walked through some of my childhood stomping grounds and went on a trip down memory lane. From my bridge to the streets and hallways where childhood imagination and social interaction thrived in many ways. Connected to different emotions from happiness to sadness to appreciation of all that there is.
At a young age I became aware that everything was transient. Some changes were harder to cope with than others. I observed both in myself and others what we tried hard to hold onto and what things were easier to let go of. Transience is a universal truth.
The loss of loved ones, the loss of parts of ourselves, our routines, the environment around us. Most change we experience is cyclical in nature. The days and nights, the seasons, the ups and downs of life….
Studying Zen and the Dao reinforced the inner framework of my mind, expanded my perspective and gave me practical tools to navigate both our realities of duality and oneness. Change is inevitable regardless of the level (from individual to world). For many, change can be difficult. We may cling to situations that no longer serve us because we fear the change will be more painful. And while that may be true in the moment some changes lead to long-lasting positive shifts.
Just contemplating transience leads to other spiritual laws like acceptance, trust, balance, choice, compassion, forgiveness, etc. Training your body, mind and spirit can help us navigate the inevitable changes that we all will face. May the qi be qi be with you.
Peace.
Wm.
