Welcome to my first blog. For over 30 years I have dedicated myself to a path of healing and transformation for myself and others. My work combines Eastern and Western approaches and is based on the paradigm that we are all one. I have been blessed with many amazing teachers, which include all of my students and patients as well. In fact, I believe that everyone is a teacher if we are open to learning. In Zen we are taught to have a beginner’s mind, which means we need to empty our cup to be open to seeing and learning as if it is our first time.
There are many roads one can take on their path to healing and transformation. Everyone must find their own way seeing what resonates and what works for them. Two crucial components on the path are awareness and courage.
There is no path without awareness. I often joke with my patients who want to embark on their journey of self-realization, healing, transformation, and/or enlightenment, that once they take the red pill and come out of the matrix, they cannot go back (refer to the movie, “The Matrix” 😉 ). Once you become aware you cannot become unaware. It is possible to take a break or a detour, but part of you will always know you have chosen to be on a path. There are many levels of awareness: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
We must first acknowledge that the body, mind, and spirit are truly one and are interconnected in their function. For many, their path begins when they become aware of some discomfort or dis-ease in their body, mind, or spirit. For others, they may not heed the call and remain content in their less consciously aware existence. I think of the expression, “Ignorance is bliss.”
Those embarking on a path of self-cultivation may not realize how much courage is needed to continue on the path, or may not acknowledge their own courage. Just the fact that they choose the red pill is courageous. The path is not easy, and is full of challenges. Tapping into one’s inner and outer resources can assist you in moving through to the next level. Oftentimes we not only need courage, but also great faith that freedom from our pain and suffering is attainable.
One of the keys is learning how to remain simultaneously aware of the oneness, while navigating in conventional reality. Conventional reality is connected to the theory of Yin and Yang, and the duality and relativity of all things, while true or absolute reality is the understanding that there is only one energy and we are all individual expressions of that energy. Daoist and Buddhist philosophy and practices, like meditation, can help us to experience this underlying reality and its manifestations.
Thank you for reading. For years, many of my teachers, students, and patients have encouraged me to share my knowledge and gifts with a greater audience. It is through this website that I hope to continue to provide you with useful content to assist you on your path to healing and transformation.
